Nimari

Nimari, also known as “Khargaon”, “Khargoni” and “Khurgoni”, is a prominent draught breed of central India named after its place of origin (Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh). Its breeding tract comprises Khargaon (West Nimar) and Badwani districts of Madhya Pradesh. Few pure-bred animals are also found in adjoining districts of Maharashtra. Believed to have originated from crossing of Gir and Khillar breeds, it inherits characteristics of both. It is red in colour with large white splashes and possesses massive body, convex forehead, and has horns that resembles Gir breed. Horns usually emerge in a backward direction from the outer angles of the poll, some what in the same manner as in Gir cattle, turning upward, outward and finally inward. Hardiness, agility and temper have inherited from Khillar. Prized primarily for draught work, the animals are maintained chiefly for agricultural operations with occasional use in transportation. Average milk yield of the breed is 767 Kg per lactation with a range of 600-954 Kg per lactation.  The average milk fat% is 4.9.
