Badri is dual purpose breed of Uttarakhand which also known as “Pahadi”; as they are mainly found in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand. The breeding tract includes Nainital, Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand. Animals are well adapted to hilly terrains and climatic conditions and have balanced gait while walking. Common colour is Black, Brown or Grey, but rarely white colour seen in females. Horns are curved-upward and inward. Badri is Small sized, active and sure-footed animal. Straight forehead with prominent poll, medium to large hump. Udder small and tucked up with the body. Badri is reared mainly for bullock power, milk and manure. The animals are maintained in semi-intensive management system and are stall fed in the morning and in the night, and grazed from afternoon to evening. Average milk yield per lactation of Badri cow is 632 kg (range from 547 to 657 kg) with an average milk fat of 4 % (range from 3.6 to 4.4 %)
